DTF Heat Press Instructions

Follow these instructions to apply your Pressed Designz Customs DTF transfers. Heat presses can vary, so a small test press is recommended before completing a large order.

Recommended Starting Settings

  • Temperature: 300–315°F
  • Pressing time: 10–15 seconds
  • Pressure: Medium to firm
  • Peel: Warm peel unless otherwise noted
  • Final press: 5–10 seconds

These are general starting settings. Fabric type, transfer size, heat-press accuracy, and environmental conditions may require minor adjustments.

Application Instructions

1. Prepare the Garment

Place the garment flat on the heat press. Use a lint roller to remove loose fibers, dust, and debris from the application area.

2. Pre-Press

Pre-press the garment for 3–5 seconds. This removes moisture and wrinkles and creates a smooth surface for the transfer.

3. Position the Transfer

Place the DTF transfer on the garment with the printed design facing upward and the adhesive side against the fabric.

Make sure the design is straight, centered, and positioned correctly before pressing. Use heat-resistant tape when necessary to prevent movement.

4. Apply Heat and Pressure

Press the transfer at 300–315°F for 10–15 seconds using medium to firm pressure.

The heat press should apply even pressure across the entire design. Seams, collars, pockets, zippers, and other raised areas can prevent proper contact. Use a pressing pillow or pad when necessary.

5. Peel the Film

Open the press and allow the transfer to cool slightly. Peel the carrier film smoothly and carefully while it is warm unless your order includes different peeling instructions.

If the design begins lifting from the garment, stop peeling, place the film back into position, and press again for several seconds.

6. Final Press

Cover the design with parchment paper, butcher paper, or a reusable finishing sheet. Press again for 5–10 seconds using the same pressure.

The final press helps improve durability and creates a smooth, finished appearance.

Fabric Considerations

DTF transfers can be applied to many cotton, polyester, cotton-polyester blends, and other compatible fabrics.

Use additional caution with:

  • Polyester and performance fabrics
  • Heat-sensitive materials
  • Waterproof or coated fabrics
  • Nylon
  • Garments prone to dye migration
  • Items with seams, pockets, zippers, or buttons

Always check the garment manufacturer’s heat recommendations before pressing.

Troubleshooting

The transfer is lifting

Possible causes include insufficient heat, time, or pressure. Reposition the carrier film and press again for several seconds.

The design has uneven areas

Make sure the garment is completely flat and that seams or raised areas are not preventing even pressure. A pressing pillow may help.

The garment shows a press mark

Reduce the temperature, pressure, or pressing time. Use a protective sheet and test the garment before production.

Colors are changing or bleeding

The fabric may be experiencing dye migration. Lower-temperature application settings or a transfer designed for dye-blocking may be required.

Washing and Care Instructions

For the best durability:

  • Wait at least 24 hours before washing.
  • Turn the garment inside out.
  • Machine wash in cold water.
  • Use a mild detergent.
  • Do not use bleach or fabric softener.
  • Tumble dry on low heat or hang to dry.
  • Do not dry-clean.
  • Do not iron directly over the design.
